What is worse then having all your systems hijacked? Its having to pay millions to get what’s rightfully yours back. This is what has apparently happened to Colonial Pipeline yesterday.

News reports have said they paid a ransom of between 4-5 million USD. This is why its so important to have a PLAN B when cyber security mitigation fails. While we don’t know all the facts on why Colonial Pipeline’s executive team decided to pay such a exorbitant ransom; we do know a comprehensive business continuity and disaster recovery plan (which should have included ransomware) is essential to ensuring your organization is not held hostage with your own data! This gives your organization an exist ramp from ransomware and a solid PLAN B.

One thing is for sure, the details of this deal will be published soon. We will then know why Colonial Pipeline decided to go this route to resolve the crisis.
