I just read an interesting article by Yuki Nogushi (@YukiNogushi) at NPR. In her article she talks about the impact of extended power loss on small businesses. In her interview with Joyce Chastain, she said larger businesses have the resources and staffing to rebuild relatively quickly (during prolonged power loss). However, where small businesses are concerned she states “Smaller businesses, they just don’t have that kind of infrastructure, and some of them won’t come back“.

This is sadly true and all too common. Many small businesses like accounting, legal, tax and financial services don’t have to suffer this with good planning. Continuity should be as much a part of daily operations as bookkeeping and billing. A tested BC/DR plan would avoid business owners experiencing this pain.
